Introduction
Vajrayana Mahamudra is the supreme swift path to full enlightenment that comes from the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. It is the very essence of Buddha’s teachings. By practising this special method purely and sincerely, we can attain great enlightenment in one short human life. Therefore, we should strive to make our human life meaningful by practising Vajrayana Mahamudra.
According to Vajrayana, ‘Mahamudra’ means ‘great seal’, in which ‘great’ refers to the very subtle mind of spontaneous great bliss, and ‘seal’ refers to ultimate truth emptiness. Maha- mudra, therefore, is the union of spontaneous bliss and emptiness. Altogether, there are three levels of union of Mahamudra: the Mahamudra that is the union of bliss and emptiness, the Mahamudra that is the union of the two truths, and the Mahamudra that is the resultant Union of No More Learning, or great enlightenment. To attain these unions, we must first receive a Highest Yoga Tantra empowerment and then gain some experience of self-generation as the Deity, in this case Heruka. Upon this basis, we should then train in the actual Mahamudra meditation by relying upon this sadhana.
We first perform the preliminary practices of brief self- generation and Guru yoga, and then, after dissolving the Guru into our root mind at our heart, we engage in the actual training in Mahamudra meditation. By training in this way, eventually we shall attain the Mahamudra that is the union of bliss and emptiness, and on this basis go on to attain the other two unions, and great enlightenment.
