Introduction
In general, transference of consciousness, or powa, involves the mind leaving the body and going to a higher state through the force of meditation. Thus, when we are training in powa, we are learning to separate our mind from our body through meditation. Although it is sometimes said that successful powa training will gradually shorten one’s lifespan, the training presented in this sadhana poses no such danger.
This special powa practice has the same function as Vajrayogini’s uncommon yoga of inconceivability; through this training we can attain a Buddha’s Pure Land such as Pure Dakini Land without abandoning this human body.
The instruction presented in this sadhana is a combination of the common powa instructions, such as those written by the first Panchen Lama and Ngulchu Dharmabhadra, and the uncommon powa instructions that come from the Ganden Oral Lineage. We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to receive and practise this profound instruction.
