A Vision for World Peace –
The International Temples Project

The International Temples Project (ITP) is an international fund dedicated to public benefit. It was founded by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche with the aim to introduce the Buddhist faith and practice of the New Kadampa Tradition publicly, and to exemplify Buddhist practice through public service – showing how individuals and society benefit through the practice of Buddhism in modern daily life.

Constantly adapting to meet the needs of modern society, the International Temples Project presently achieves its aim through creating traditional and non-traditional World Peace Temples, Kadampa Meditation Centers and International Retreat Centers and through the activities of World Peace Cafes and Tharpa publications.

All books and other items sold on any of the International Tharpa websites are published under the auspices of the ITP and the profit from all of these sales are dedicated to public benefit through this fund.

When you buy a Tharpa product you are making a direct contribution towards this vision for world peace.

Only by creating peace within our own mind and helping others do the same can we hope to achieve peace in this world.”

40 Years of Kindness

On August 27, 1977 the world-renowned meditation master Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche arrived at Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre in the English Lake District—an event that heralded the dawn of Modern Kadampa Buddhism in this world.

Since that time Venerable Geshe-la has worked tirelessly to introduce Modern Kadampa Buddhism into contemporary society and to create a worldwide infrastructure to support its growth and development in this and future generations.

All these developments are being accomplished through the international charitable organization that he founded—The New Kadampa Tradition (NKT-IKBU).
